Advertising is like a hurricane

Standard

I have been transfixed by the colorful satellite images of Hurricane Issac over the past few days, much to the dismay of my many Facebook friends, due mostly to my excessive posting of said images, like the one below.  I digress….

Watching Issac meander its way methodically past the west coast of Florida, it causes me to think about advertising.

The hurricane starts as a small movement, slowly gaining in size and strength, not to dissimilar to an advertising campaign.

Promotion of a product begins gaining attention and interest.  Successful ad campaigns are like the perfect storm creating a broader reach while generating energy and excitement.

If you’re lucky your ad campaign will achieve a “CAT 5” status.

I also like the mindset of how people actually get ready for a hurricane. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst, another advertising truism.

I am honored to present my success strategies for offline or face to face marketing.  With out a doubt, it’s still the most effective form of communication. And it can be fun! It’s time to get out of the office, from behind the screen and get real, up close, in person to make new contacts and stay connected both online and offline.

Branded or Stranded

Standard

What are you doing to enhance your business brand?  Your logo, your website, your marketing collateral.  Is your brand in keeping with the times?  Is it recognizable, descriptive, or memorable?

Is your brand over 10 years old?  Is the look of your brand dated?  Maybe it’s time to re-brand your business….a business look makeover if you will.

Better to be branded than stranded with a brand that isn’t working for you.  Not sure if you need to re-brand?

Direct me to your website, tell me a bit about your business.  I will provide you a free brand assessment.

YOU TUBE or Not to YOU TUBE?

Standard

Recently I was conducting a Focus Group on re-branding. During our session, one attendee commented he has stopped going to trade shows.  He is using You Tube to promote his products.

Interestingly enough the value of the spoken word is still a very powerful force!  Technology gives you the opportunity to really be seen and heard.  Of course what you say still has to be relevant, meaningful and believable.

I am curious to learn how many followers of this blog are using You Tube to promote their business.  I want to hear about it from you and see it on the “tube” which is really ironic if you really think about it.

If you have a You Tube Video please include the link in your post – if possible.

Totally Tubular!

Oh for the love of guacamole!

Standard

You either love or despise the green goo that tends to appear on your plate when ordering at your favorite Mexican restaurant.

I happen to love guacamole! It is what makes a fajita fabulous, tacos tasty, or burritos beautiful? Well you get my point. If you love it, it makes your meal much more appealing and just downright yummy!

So what does this really have to do with anything?

Guacamole is not the meal it is the bonus. Like the lemon in your water or the cherry on your sundae – part of the whole.

What’s the guacamole in your business? What’s the added part making you stand out from the rest? Is it your unparalleled customer service? Maybe the freebies you offer to your clients or customers?

Whatever your guacamole, don’t forget it.

Stir It Up!

Stagnation in life and in business can be deadly.

Change can be challenging, frustrating and sometimes surprisingly rewarding.

If you don’t allow yourself to stretch beyond what you know – you may never find out who you can become.

Are you willing to take the challenge?

What is one thing about your business you need to change? Is it technical? Or is it personnel? Maybe you need to develop a new marketing approach, perhaps a little unconventional.

What ever you do – don’t just sit there, because the world of business is in constant motion – Stir It Up!

Giving Back; why supporting local charities is good business.

Standard

You cannot hope to build a better world without improving individuals.  We must work for our improvement, and at the same time share a general responsiblity for all humanity.” – Marie Curie

Not to diminish the far-reaching needs of individuals around the globe, but what are you doing in your community to make a difference.  Is your business, or the business you are employed by giving back?  There are obvious tie-ins to many charities that make sense.

Choose a local charity you are passionate about and make a difference.  Not only is the publicity you may or may not receive an added perk, but you never know you might be volunteering along side with.  Give back, it’s just good business.

What charities are you involved with in your community?

Six degrees of separation; who do you know who knows somebody you know?

Standard

The world is getting smaller.  Our ability to communicate  to the masses at the push of a button is amazing.  Get to know people, because they may know people you know.  Conversely, be careful of your words because you never know.

In case you’re bored this holiday weekend, think back to the beginning of a new job or living in a new town, write down the name of the first person you met.  Then begin to fill the page with other people you met because of that person – what a spiderweb of people you can end up with!  It’s kinda fun and interesting.
If you know me personally, please leave a comment about when you met me.

Because the more people you know, the more people you know.
